Finals are fast approaching, but WVAU Prom is this Friday. What better way to kick off the end of the semester than with drinks, dancing and disco ? And while Comet Ping Pong is more known for pizza and DIY punk bands than for eight-balls and celebrity sightings, it doesn‰’t mean we can‰’t embody the hedonistic glamour of our favorite disco spot.

First, it‰’s important to look at some of the lovely ladies who made fashion so fun in the disco era.

Bianca Jagger

Undoubtedly the Queen of Studio 54. From arriving on a white horse at her 30th birthday party to being buds with Halston and Andy Warhol, Jagger always looked cool as hell and effortlessly chic. Jagger was known for show-stopping outfits, be it all-white suits or crimson sequined ball gowns (with a matching beret, no less). Steal her style by donning soft white silks or bright reds in long dresses with off the shoulder sleeves, halter tops or naval-deep v-necks. Add a quirky accessory, like a netted veil or even a fucking bird.

Grace Jones

While known more for her bold androgynous looks in the 1980s, Grace Jones was a frequent regular at Studio 54 and always looked incredible. Heavy contouring, arms full of silver bangles, barely-there bottoms and shades of purple are the key elements to her look. Rock a deep red look and a low-cut flowy wrap styled leotard. Don‰’t wear a bra. Worried about a nip slip? Grace couldn‰’t care less.

Donna Summer

Donna Summer – the disco queen. She felt love and we certainly do, too, towards her sequined style. Only Donna could make pairing flower crowns and fur coats look so effortless. Whether donning barely there white leotards or jeweled-caped white gowns, Summer always looked like a goddess. Channel her look with a sequined maxi-dress or opulent fur coat and a daisy in your hair. Tight or brushed out curls with a red lip always works too.

Beauty: light pastel eyeshadow with spider lashes (mascara on your top AND lower lids), THE RED LIP, lots of rouge and heavy contouring, soft, brushed out curls, tight-curled afros, glitter everywhere ! paint your body in silver or gold and show up nude , if you dare.

Fashion: long, flowing maxi dresses with deep v-necks or high halter tops, hot pants or bell bottoms, gold lamÌ© and silver sequins, platform heels (preferably with a backstage pass to the Rolling Stones clipped on the ankle), sparkly tights and or bare legs, catsuits or leotards, spandex shorts or big fur coats – the choice is yours ! The great thing about disco fashion is it really encompasses so many different styles – just don‰’t be afraid to show off. Aim to be sparkly, sexy and a STAR.
