Head-pounding Indie-pop with strange integration of hip hop influence

Most would agree that Matt and Kim have one of the most unique sounds in Indie Pop- that‰’s what‰’s made them so successful. They have this way of combining sounds that most think wouldn‰’t work together (heavy percussion and tinkling piano) and making it sound catchy, energetic and fun. In their latest release, New Glow, this is heavily prevalent-with an added bonus. Matt‰’s melodic keyboard playing and Kim‰’s hard-hitting percussion are still there, but they‰’ve added a lot of sound effects that are commonly found in hip hop music today. It‰’s a very strange combination, but… it actually works out pretty well. The auto-tuned backup vocals, the added horn effects, and the trap beat on “Get It‰” (2:01-2:25) all just add to the powerful energy that Matt and Kim‰’s music brings. The lyrics are very simplistic and repetitive, but that‰’s just what makes the music so catchy and why their music is great to dance to.
