Charming eclectic acoustic sad music

We open on a grainy home-video of a couple on a windy beach, shot in sepia. It‰’s the kind of quirky and enchanting that Wes Anderson movies aspire to be. What‰’s playing in the background? It‰’s the dulcet tones of Elvis Perkins‰’s I Aubade. Powered by acoustic guitar melodies and gorgeous storytelling, like on the best track “The Passage of the Black Gene,‰” I Aubade is a scenic album glittered with just about anything he could find in the antique shop: harp, wind, motors, old radio excerpts and pan flute just to name a few. With innovative, layered music, Perkins creates a beautiful album that offers something different every track, but doesn‰’t give up deeper substance. Eclectic, effortlessly classic and just really pretty, it takes you into the depths of Perkins‰’ solitude and leaves you with a final sigh of “Oh to be somewhere and to be somebody else;‰” but being lonely never sounded so good.
