Witty post-punk.

Originally from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, Chastity Belt didn‰’t find fame until they hit the city of Seattle. Now, on the heels of their 2013 debut No Regerts, Annie Truscott, Gretchen Grimm and Julia Shapiro have many more critiques to offer about the millennial patriarchy. The music is fairly sedate sounding with reverb guitar strumming and beautiful moving guitar parts. But if you listen to the lyrics, you‰’ll find wry critiques about modern society. For instance Shapiro remarks “It‰’s OK to be slutty‰” in “Cool Slut‰Û. Shapiro‰’s vocals can be moany and haunting like in “Drone‰” and “Trapped‰Û. She melodically moans over the beautiful moving guitar part while the bass and drums smash on underneath it all. “Joke‰” has a beautiful groove to it while Shapiro asserts “I only fucked you as a joke‰Û. Chastity Belt comes off like they don‰’t really care about being a professional group or being popular but I think there‰’s a sense that Time To Go Home deeply and truly believes in itself both musically and philosophically.
