Roses Pawn Shop, "Gravity Well" (Self-Released)

Anna Walsh

Energetic, creative Americana.

Americana favorites Rose‰’s Pawn Shop bring a rocking, rootsy masterpiece with their newest release Gravity Well. High-energy banjo melodies and deep bass played slap-style are the highlights of the album opener, and set an upbeat vibe for the whole record. “Staring At the Door‰” is a fusion of modern soul and folk, with added dimension from string interludes. One main component of Gravity Well is the background vocals, which often go to the forefront with lead vocals, making for a group dynamic that makes for a big, epic sound. In traditional Americana fashion, Rose‰’s Pawn Shop also employ plenty of clapping and stomping as supplemental percussion. Acoustic riffs often cast a feeling of sweetness over tracks, but bass and fiddles maintain the band‰’s roots. Electrified vocals make this album edgy, and give “Country Blues‰” a sinister feel. With Gravity Well, Rose‰’s Pawn Shop have yet again demonstrated that they are not one-trick ponies, but a creative and dynamic band that is able to blend traditional roots rock with multiple aspects of modern indie.
