Deanna Mudry

Rock n‰’ Roll at its finest.

Sultry, strung out and with infectious rhythm, Red Metal is a really good back to basics rock album. All of the tracks are filled with lo-fi vocals, good vibes and wobbly and screechy guitar parts that rendezvous with each other while the frontman sings lines like “My condition is improving slightly but not enough to make me feel well.‰” All of the tracks are so worth listening to, but the album is definitely spearheaded by the late 60s drumming and moaning on “Delta Rice,‰” the whispers of rockabilly on “Rockenroul‰” and the closer “Slow Going Down‰” which is exactly what it sounds like, but then 10x groovier and includes all the tambourines you could ever want and then some. Oil Boom does a really great job of combining the big classic rock sound with the more organic, rough-cut “this was produced in a bedroom‰” sound, making Red Metal an album that is uniquely them. Overall, a great album and highly recommended.
