Dark Indie Folk

After seeing Saintseneca play a live in-studio session here at WVAU… I kind of fell in love. This was before their first full-length album, Dark Arc, had dropped. When I heard them live, I knew I was really going to dig this album. Dark Arc is a series of songs that follow a certain trajectory by starting with very subdued male vocals from lead singer Zac Little that then build into finish with swelling guitars and vocals. The lead female vocals of Maryn Jones gives body to the choruses on songs like “Happy Alone‰” and “Visions.‰” This album is perfect for driving on a hot summer night and just contemplating some deep introspective thoughts. With songs like “We Are All Beads On The Same String,‰” you start to feel those intense emotions that you thought you‰’d forgotten about. Little‰’s voice has the power to bring you to a very dark but thoughtful place while still having strong indie-folk music behind it that moves you. Although I thought the writing on this album was good, I hope that in the future, the band will stay away from cliches like “Only The Good Die Young,‰” which just shows a lack of maturity in some cases. Overall, I think this album will be on my summer playlist, as it‰’s a solid dark folk album.
