Hey all you people, hey all you people, hey all you people won’t you listen to me??? In case you haven’t heard the news, we’re honored to announce that WVAU has officially been nominated for a CMJ College Radio Award this year, for the first time ever!

CMJ, the mighty bible of college radio to whom we report our rackspins, holds an annual conference/festival in New York City called the CMJ Music Marathon. Among a bunch of cool columns and hundreds of shows throughout this October week, there is an awards ceremony where the College Radio Awards are given to worthy stations for categories like Best Music Taste, Best Champion of the Local Scene, and the big kahuna, Station of the Year.

This semester we decided that a station as sick as ours should really be on the radar of the larger college radio community, so we put together a promo video in the hopes of being nominated for one or more of the categories. Here it is, in all its goofy, unrehearsed glory:

And guess what? Thanks to some of our dear friends with CMJ subscriptions, we, along with four worthy competitors, have been nominated for Best Student-Run, Internet-Only Station! Full nomination list here.

This is a huge deal and a huge honor for us. The difference between the WVAU of even three years ago and the powerhouse it is now is astounding, and it’s great to see that we’re starting to make waves in the larger world of college radio. With our mix of great online content, cool events and shows and most of all our awesome programming, we think that we truly are the best student-run, internet only station on the map.

But we’re not all the way yet! Anybody with an entry badge to the Music Marathon can vote for winners in every category, but voting must be done on site at the Marathon itself. So if you or anybody you know happens to be attending this sweet event, be sure to throw us a vote! This is only the beginning of the great things that can come our way if we win this award.
