"Bodak Yellow" by Cardi B released this summer, kickstarting Cardi B’s career into massive success in the music industry where it topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks consecutively. "Bodak Yellow" made music history as the first time in 19 years that a female solo hip-hop single charted that successfully since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998. Now with two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song and over 387 million views on Youtube, Bodak Yellow is not only the banger of 2017 but also a real big mood.

Ask any of my friends who have been in a car ride or at the club with me and they can attest to me fiercely belting out the lyrics with a serious passion. I also know many friends of mine who relate heavily to the unapologetic, brash, bad bitch themes of Cardi B’s songwriting. What makes Cardi B so appealing as a social media personality and as a rapper is her no filter personality still keeping it real with so many of us regardless of her newfound celebrity status. Since I’ve come to college, I’ve been on a self-discovery of building up the confidence I never had in high school. Being able to build up my own self-worth and realizing when to draw the line with people who don’t appreciate me was an important revelation crucial to my self-discovery. Now that I’m in the same emotional setting as Bodak Yellow, I’m thriving and I no longer let my insecurities rule my life. Sonically, "Bodak Yellow" is the song of the underdog as beat accelerates and ebbs with Cardi’s flow projecting adrenaline and impact. So many of us heard "Bodak Yellow" and are on our way to making money moves. Or we just want to tell toxic people that they’re worker bitches and we aren’t afraid to make bloody moves when that chorus hits. As 2017 truly continued on the dread of 2016, "Bodak Yellow" reminded us that we shouldn’t bother with these hoes and not to let these hoes bother us. So, I’ll continue to yell out every line regardless of the setting I’m in cause only the real can relate.
