Zen Palette: Misogi

Recently turned 16-years-old, Dubai‰’s Misogi has been one of my favorite Soundcloud producers since he was only 15. This teenager‰’s talent was at first extremely underrated by a lot of the Soundcloud community. Not to say that his work goes unappreciated, but it’s surprising he wasn’t picked up earlier by any of the leading collectives or labels of this Internet niche. In spite all of that, his production and design are impressive and he is now being recognized for his work with a lot of notable new releases in 2015.

Drake fans should rejoice: Misogi employs Drake samples in an entirely new way in a variety of his tracks. There‰’s also a certain kind of cinematic element to Misogi‰’s tracks; it’s almost as if you‰’re listening to these big beats in the pouring rain in an empty stadium. And the best way I can attempt to label the genre-less material from this U.A.E. producer is what I call “cinematic trap.”

With a sound similar to Cavalier and Gravez, Misogi still comes up as a fiercely independent-sounding artist. The first song I heard by Misogi was “Clairvoyant.” At the time (and I still stand by this statement), I named this as the best song I ever heard in 2014 on Twitter.

Misogi has caught the attention of a few collectives on the Internet this year, recently releasing a track on the latest  Alaya radio compilation, a collaboration with Andrea on Moose Records tape, and a feature with artist Josh Pan.

I expect to hear many great things coming from this young, up-and-coming artist and I‰’m looking forward to hearing the next set of sounds he releases. Misogi is definitely a producer to look out for in the near future.
