In case you missed it, the Antlers will be performing at American University as part of WVAU’s semesterly Capitol Punishment series. The Antlers were last in D.C. during 2014, playing at the 9:30 Club, and they will be back this month before supporting Death Cab for Cutie on their spring tour.

The indie rock trio will be gracing the District with their brand of stirring music that is guaranteed to tug at your heart and its strings. The band, comprising of Peter Silberman, Darby Cicci and Michael Lerner, have released 5 studio albums and 5 EPs to date. Their arguably most raved about album, Hospice, narrates a story of a terminally-ill patient and a hospice worker. Following up this concept album came 2011’s Burst Apart, 2012’s Undersea EP and last year’s Familiars, all of which balanced this emotional content out with larger atmospheres.

Their music can be described as highly emotional, and often heartbreakingly beautiful. While Hospice was a formidable feat, Burst Apart and Familiars have shown that they are a match for its eloquence, both in songwriting and feelings. Look no further than the Antlers if you want tunes to move you and make your heart swell.

Singles such as “Two,‰” “Hotel,‰” and “Every Night My Teeth are Falling Out‰” are not enough to represent their comprehensive work. Neither does having their music featured on shows such as Suits and Chuck. Seeing their summer show was nothing short of magical for me, and the American University community is extremely lucky to have the Antlers share such an intimate set of honest and personal music.

Below is a little playlist of songs which are some of my personal favorites to gear you up for their upcoming performance. Get your box of tissues and a shoulder to lean on ready.

The Antlers will be playing at the SIS Abramson Family Founders Room on the 18th of April at 8:30pm. Opening for them will be AU-based act Boon, certainly a band of Antlers fans. Entry to the event is free with a valid AU ID.
